In December 2021, a tragic robbery attempt left 28-year-old Cristian Quiñonez fighting for his life. Around 9:30 p.m. on a Saturday night, Quiñonez was intercepted by two motorcycle thieves as he was entering a party in the Los Mirasoles neighborhood of Trujui de Moreno. The criminals attempted to steal his cell phone, and when Quiñonez resisted, they fired four shots at him. Two bullets struck him in the leg, another in the shoulder, while a fourth hit his phone. After the attack, Quiñonez was left lying on the ground, while the thieves sped off on their motorcycle.
The quick response of nearby partygoers was crucial in keeping Quiñonez alive. He was immediately rushed to the Mariano and Luciano de la Vega Provincial Hospital in Moreno. Upon arrival, he suffered a cardiac arrest but was saved by the medical team. He underwent emergency surgery and is now on mechanical respiratory assistance, with his condition remaining critical. Quiñonez sustained serious injuries, including damage to his large intestine, a bullet lodged in his lung, and significant damage to his kidneys. Due to the severe blood loss, he continues to receive blood transfusions.
The police arrested two individuals who may be linked to the attack on Quiñonez, and investigators are working to confirm their involvement. Interestingly, security cameras captured another robbery by two motorcycle thieves earlier that evening, with similarities to the attackers in this case. The investigation continues as the community hopes for justice for Cristian Quiñonez and the capture of those responsible.
