Ecopetrol worker dies in argument between neighbours

The death of González Flórez leaves four children orphaned, one of them a minor.


Demetrio González Flórez, a 58-year-old man from Barrancabermeja, Colombia, was killed outside his home on August 30. He was nearing retirement from Ecopetrol when a dispute with neighbours turned violent.

The altercation happened in the Palmira neighbourhood, where González Flórez was struck with a motorcycle helmet, causing him to fall and hit his head. Video footage of the incident surfaced on September 17.

Despite immediate medical attention, González Flórez was pronounced dead at the hospital due to his injuries. The community was shocked by the brutality of the attack on a well-respected individual.
