In the quiet city of Ayacucho, Peru, a typical workday at a propane distributor quickly spiraled into a scene of unthinkable violence. On September 6, 2022, two co-workers, Rafael Vilcatoma Arone and Abraham Lucano Huarcaya, were engaged in their daily task of labeling and organizing empty propane tanks. There was no hint of tension between themโno visible sign of the tragedy that was about to unfold.
Lucano bent down to take notes, immersed in his routine, when Vilcatoma, without warning, struck him on the head with one of the propane tanks. The sudden, brutal attack left Lucano unconscious, lying helpless on the cold ground. But Vilcatoma didnโt stop there. He continued his assault, hitting Lucano repeatedly on the head with the heavy gas tank, turning what could have been an accident into a cold-blooded murder. The blows were fatal. Lucano succumbed to his injuries at the scene, the gas distributor becoming an unexpected crime scene.
In the aftermath, Vilcatoma fled, but the police swiftly apprehended him. The motive behind this horrific act remains unclear, leaving many questions unanswered. How could a regular workday end in such tragedy? What drove Vilcatoma to commit such a heinous crime? These are the lingering mysteries that haunt this case, leaving a community in shock and mourning for a life so violently taken.
As the investigation continues, a forensic expert from Lima has been called in to assess Vilcatomaโs psychological state, hoping to shed some light on what led him to this senseless act of violence
