
May 2019: Security cameras show the moment when an armed 17-year-old teenager opens fire, shooting at least three shots at a filling station in the municipality of Iturrama, state of Minas Gerais. One of the shots reached the victim, Valdir José de Jesus, 31 years old; he dodged two others, all delivered at close range. According to the Civil Police of MG, the young man was arrested.
Images show the armed young man arriving at the gas station riding a bicycle. Then the victim appears when he gets surprised with the first shot. The teenager shoots two more times, and Valdir bends down on both occasions. He then reacts, runs towards the suspect, and tries to grab him. The latter drops his bicycle in the middle of the gas station and runs away.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect returned moments later to fetch the bicycle. After the shots, the victim got into his car since it was parked on the spot and went to the police station to report everything that had just happened. The PMs later identified the young man that shot and witnesses.
Also according to the MG police, a witness to the action took the gun that was abandoned by the suspect to his house. After going to the resident’s house, police were able to recover the revolver, 32 caliber, in addition to five rounds.
According to the police report, he went with the projectile that hit him lodged in his back to a local hospital. Valdir told the police “he does not know the reason for the aggression”.
Civil Police informed that the teenager arrived at the municipality police station and was arrested. He is investigated for a crime corresponding to the offense of attempted murder.
